Annual Awards & Scholarships
At the Choral Music Department Awards Night in May, the Director presents awards to students. All awards are selected by the Director, although students provide input regarding the primary ensemble awards (Most Inspirational, Most Improved and Most Outstanding in each choir).
The Awards include:
Most Inspirational: Elected by peers in each choir as most inspirational to the singers in that ensemble.
Most Improved/SDHS Booster Award: Given to the singer in each choir who has improved the most during the school year. In addition, the LCHS Boosters provide a Most Improved Award for a senior singer selected by the Director.
Most Outstanding Choral Student: Given to the student or students in each ensemble that show exemplary devotion and dedication and provide an outstanding example to the other singers.
Senior Dedication Awards: Given to all seniors to reflect their years of dedication to the department.
National School Choral Award: Given for long-term commitment to and outstanding participation in the program; minimum of four years in high school choir.
Bank of America Award: Given to an outstanding senior choral student for excellence and dedication to the program.
Barry Constable Award: Given to a senior boy for dedication and outstanding participation in the program; minimum four years in high school choir.
Susy Kuster Award: Given to a senior girl for dedication, support and compassion for others and commitment to the choir community; minimum four years in high school choir.
John Kelsey Music Lovers Award: Given to a senior who most strongly demonstrates a love of music and commitment to the choral program; minimum four years in high school choir.
Arion Award for Musicianship: Given to a senior in recognition of superior musicianship.

The Ryder Buck Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established to celebrate Ryder’s life, to honor his memory and to help make a difference in his name.
CRITERION
- Graduating senior at SDHS
- Applicant will intend to study performing arts in college in the field of music: vocal or instrumental
- One or more scholarships will be awarded at Senior Awards Night
